PRO LOCO SABAUDIA PROMOTES
THE TERRITORY IN ITALY AND ABROAD, ORGANIZES AND INCENTIVE TOURIST ACTIVITIES,
CULTURAL AND FOOD AND WINE EXCELLENCES
Our territory and its Excellences
Our territory has established itself more and more over the years for its food and wine excellence with products peculiar to our area thanks also to the agricultural vocation of Sabaudia which has always been an integral part of the social and economic fabric of the city. Agriculture plays a leading role, contributing to the protection of the landscape and the environment, as well as guaranteeing the production of quality food, thus strengthening the connection between the population and the territory.
This year too, Sabaudia is among the cities that have obtained the prestigious "Spighe Verdi 2023" award, awarded to municipalities that stand out for their commitment and excellence in the agricultural sector and for the promotion of environmental sustainability.
We mainly grow vegetables and fruit such as tomatoes, peppers, courgettes, aubergines, melons, watermelons and kiwis which have a particular flavor due to the characteristics of the soil. There is no shortage of grapes. Also used by numerous local wineries for the production of wines that are increasingly establishing themselves, among these the traditional Moscato di Terracina must certainly be highlighted, both in the dry and passito versions.
The production of not only Mediterranean but also tropical flowers such as orchids, strelitzia and bougainvillea is appreciated, especially in Northern Europe.
Cattle breeding is widespread, characterized by buffaloes, the very symbol of the marshes. Pontine buffalo mozzarella is certainly the best known and most appreciated cheese, although other cheeses are no different, such as provola, caciocavallo and ricotta.
Despite not having a port that can favor fishing, Sabaudia has a historic production of natural fish in Lake Paola to which is added an excellent production of seafood which takes on a particular taste from these brackish waters.
In our Region the production of oil is widespread and is established with the significant presence of various companies.
A product of excellence, with a protected designation of origin, is the Colline Pontine DOP extra virgin olive oil which is produced in the Province of Latina.
